Eating in a new country can be a scary thing ... here is everything you'll need to know the ins and outs of food while you are over in Japan on your #gradtrip!
Unagi (freshwater eel)
Many of you might think of Ross from friends with his fingers pressed against his temple, trying to convince you the word means "state of total awareness". Despite this - unagi is just a freshwater eel that is typically used in sushi. However, it can also be eating individually and is a very popular dish in Japan.
Green Tea Ice Cream
It is no surprise that Japan is known for its various tea that they manage to put in everything - from lip gloss to KitKats - there's no surprise that they have green tea ice-cream! If you haven't tried it before, many say it can be bitter so we recommend getting it with a vanilla flavour for a better experience!
No, we aren't talking about those cheap packages of dried noodles we all lived off during exam periods - these are the real deal! Freshly made noodles with plenty of broth for that full flavour experience. Slurping noodles and soup is actually a sign you are enjoying your meal, so much to your parents discredit - slurp away!
No surprise here, but sushi can be purchased pretty much everywhere in Japan. Although it is a lot, lot cheaper rather than what you can purchase in Australia. It is a must have while on your #tripoflifetime!
