HOW TO LEAVE OUR ISLANDS AS BEAUTIFUL AS WE FIND THEM
- Did you know that every piece of plastic ever created still exists?
- Did you know that by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean?
- Did you know that 2 out of 3 fish in the ocean have ingested plastic?
Our friends from #untrashy have started a movement to reconsider our choices as consumers and take steps to minimise our footprint on the planet we call home. Simple things like refusing a plastic straw, taking your own cutlery or food container and saying no to single-use can have a massive impact on the environment.
Want to drink out of a coconut?
#untrashy have a range of sexy alternatives to plastic, including reusable stainless steel and borosilicate glass drinking straws. Result: You don’t suck and the turtles don’t ingest your trash! Nice one!
But the problem is so big – what can I do?
Supporting responsible companies and encouraging big businesses to minimise their use of plastic in products or packaging goes a long way. They say you vote with the money in your wallet, so who are you voting for?
Take 3 for the sea
When you’re on island in Fiji, at the beach at home or at uni or work, take a moment to pick up that piece of trash. Turning a blind eye won’t make it go away. We only have one planet, let’s look after it!
